Geothermal HVAC Energy St Louis
Geothermal energy is considered taking the natural heat from the earth to produce power to heat and cool homes and businesses. Geothermal Energy is just like geothermal heating and cooling except geothermal energy is where electricity is generated directly from the heat inside the earth. Geothermal heating and cooling uses the constant temperatures of the ground to provide free energy.

How does Geothermal Energy Work
The temperature in St Louis fluctuates all the time through the changing seasons. The ground temperature that is four to six feet below the ground surface remains relatively constant all year long. The Earth absorbs around 40% - 60% of the heat from the sun, making the earth a giant solar panel. During the geothermal installation process, Hoffmann Brothers installs poly-ethylene pipes or loops underground by digging wells. The pipes are filled with a water solution and sealed using heat fusion. These loops run from the ground into your home to your geothermal heat pump.

Geothermal Heating
A geothermal heat pump can provide the heat to your home during the cold St Louis winters. While your geothermal system is in heating mode, heat is absorbed from the ground and then pumped in your home. The water that circulates in the loops is colder than the ground around it. The water absorbs energy, and carries it to the heat pump in your home. In the heat pump there is a heat exchanger, where the refrigerant absorbs the heat energy from the water. The water then leaves the heat exchanger colder than when it arrived, and circulates back out through the loops to collect more energy from the ground. As the refrigerant moves from the heat exchanger to the compressor, the air is heated and then circulated out through the duct work to heat you St Louis home.

Geothermal Cooling
A geothermal heat pump provides the air conditioning that you will need to get you through the hot St Louis summers. While your geothermal heat pump is set to air conditioning mode, heat is pumped out of your home and released back into the ground. The water that circulates through the loops is warmer than the ground around it which allows for the water to release heat into the Earth. In the heat exchanger in the heat pump, the hot refrigerant gases from the compressor release its heat into the water. The water raises in temperature, and that heat is then released back into the ground.  The refrigerant which is now a cold liquid travels to the heat exchanger and over the cold air coil. The air is then blown through your ductwork to generate air conditioning through your home.
